Raging floods swamped streets in Phuket, southern Thailand, this afternoon (31/10) after the island was battered with rain storms.

The deluge caused torrents of water to cascade down from mountains and flood streets in the popular tourist resort.

Footage at 5pm in the afternoon shows how one road was hit with water up to 4ft deep as locals sheltered in nearby buildings.

The region has experienced severe storms and heavy rain in recent days as the country reaches the end of the monsoon season.

Well after a very heavy downpour that lasted about 2 hours in which we saw an area of Phuket which has never flooded before suddenly disappear underwater. Lucky yesterday the rain stopped but if it had continued more damage would have been done, but what caused the flooding? was it just down to the volume of rain?

I'm not so sure living in this area for over 2 years i have never seen this before and also hearing from other locals that have lived here a lot long who again have never seen what happened yesterday before makes me wonder?
