THREE bomb attacks yesterday rocked Songkhla's Sadao district, wounding 24 people including two Malaysian tourists.
The bombs went off simultaneously in front of the Padang Besar Police Station, near the Sadao Besar Police Station and by the Oliver Hotel.
Security officials said the blasts were likely the work of separatists but a detailed investigation was needed.
Governor Krissada Bunraj dismissed reports about two blasts at a McDonald's restaurant and a Tesco Lotus branch. Investigators said both attacks were caused by devices planted in motorcycles.
Most of the wounded were at the hotel where a crowd of Thai and foreign tourists had gathered. None of them are in serious condition, Krissada said.
They were all taken to three hospitals for treatment and some of them have been released.
Afterwards, security was tightened in the district and also in Hat Yai.
Sadao borders Padang Besar in Malaysia's Perlis state and insurgents have occasionally been active there.
