Culture Minister Sukumol Khunploem yesterday pointed out that Thai society found the Thailand's Got Talent episode on Sunday, featuring a 23-year-old female contestant painting on a canvas with her bare breasts, unacceptable.
The ministry hence will call a meeting with the show organisers, the content editing crew and the content-censoring agency to discuss about this and find solutions together, she said.
Saying the show's evening airtime still had many young viewers, hence exposing children to such image and confusing them, Sukumol said parents had to provide guidance about the image because, even with a claim that this was an artistic expression, there should be some limits in presenting it. She said that the program producer must provide explanation and that this inappropriate content should have been cut as the show wasn't live. She said that she personally astonished by the contestant's show in which the topless contestant also turned to the face the camera.

THAILAND'S GOT TALENT
Bare-breasted artist 'hired' to boost shows ratings: report
The "art or obscenity" scandal over the latest episode of Thailand's Got Talent television show now threatens to expose grave violations of media ethics as allegations came out yesterday that the contestant in question had been "hired" to go on stage.
Following strong criticism of the show's Sunday episode showing a female contestant paint on canvas with her bare breasts, Thai Rath newspaper reported yesterday that Duangjai Jansaunoi, 23, had been hired by the show's producers - Workpoint Entertainment.
The news report quoted a close friend of the contestant as saying that Duangjai had been paid Bt10,000 to help boost the show's ratings, but she did not know what she had to do until just before the show was recorded. The friend went on to say that Duangjai was not an independent artist as claimed but a nude model in real life.
Meanwhile, Workpoint Entertainment CEO Panya Nirankul dismissed the allegations in an interview on the "Reung Den Yenni" TV show yesterday, saying that he had asked around and concluded that Thailand's Got Talent producers had nothing to do with it. He explained that agents hunted down many of the contestants, which might be the reason behind this controversy.
Asked if the producers of the show had indeed told Duangjai to take her top off in order to boost ratings, Panya said Thailand's Got Talent was already successful enough so it was very unlikely.
However, he said, he had not yet spoken to the contestant or the agent who had brought her to the show, but admitted that he had made a mistake by thinking that partially censoring the image would be sufficient and promised that it would not happen again.

Channel 3 fined for breast painting
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) on Wednesday decided to impose a fine of 500,000 baht on Channel 3 for allowing a controversial breast-painting act to be broadcast on a TV show, reports said.
On Sunday, a 23-year-old female contestant performed a breast-painting act on Thailand's Got Talent programme. The act has provoked uproar from the Culture Ministry and public members.
Gen Peerapong Manakit, chairman of the NBTC's subcommittee on broadcasting, said on Tuesday that the content might have violated section 37 of the Radio and Television and Broadcasting Act 2008.
The clip below, uploaded to YouTube by DuangAesthetic, shows the Thailand's Got Talent contestant removing her shirt and bra, pouring paint on her bare breasts and rubbing her body on the canvas.

Bt500 fine for topless painter
Police have fined a woman 500 baht for taking off her blouse and bra and using her breasts to paint a picture during a talent show broadcast on national television last month, reports said on Wednesday.
Duangjai "Pond" Jansaunoi, a female contestant on the Thailand's Got Talent programme, reported to Phaya Thai police station on Wednesday afternoon to acknowledge the charge of indecent exposure.
Pond was questioned for about 90 minutes before being slapped with a 500 baht police fine for indecent exposure.
Pond, who introduced herself as an independent artist, appeared on the show broadcast on Channel 3 on June 17.
The contestant turned to a large canvas and painted a yellow outline of a person, then removed her shirt and bra and doused herself with paint before using her body as a brush to fill in the outline. She then turned to the audience and displayed her body covered in paint.
The act drew a lot of attention, with comments for and against her posted on websites. And also claims that she was paid by the show's organisers to perform.
