A 57-year-old German woman was found dead after allegedly falling from the 24th floor of a luxury condominium in Bangkok’s Pathumwan district in the early hours of Saturday.
Her body was found in a pool of blood near the swimming pool on the sixth floor of a 30-storey condominium on Soi Mahadlek 2 in the Lumpini area, said Pol Capt Noppara Thongbor, a deputy investigation chief at Lumpini police station. The officer was reported around 1am on Saturday.
The woman, identified by her German husband as Doris Erika Beger and wearing a black outfit, was lying face-down near the pool after falling from their room on the 24th floor.
Her husband Rudolf Beger, 70, a lawyer, told police that he and his wife had lived in the condominium for three years. The Begers are listed as directors of Antorum International, a specialist in advising international investors on commercial real estate.
Before the incident, Mr Beger said, the couple had gone out to have a meal and drank some wine.
As it was getting late, he asked his wife to return to their room, but on the way they had a quarrel. His wife had threatened to jump to her death when she arrived but he said he thought she was not serious as she was drunk.
When they arrived at the condominium, his wife entered the room first and he followed. He saw her walking to the balcony while telling him she would jump. At the time, he still thought she was joking, but she made good on her word, the husband said.
Police and forensic officers inspected the room. They plan to examine footage of a closed-circuit television camera and further interrogate the German man and other witnesses. Her body was sent to a forensic institute for post-mortem examination to find out the cause of death.
