The Interpol “Red Notice” for Red Bull scion Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya, a hit-and-run suspect wanted by Thailand, has disappeared from the Interpol website.

It was unclear when the notice -- a worldwide request to find and arrest an individual pending an extradition --»went missing from the website and for what reasons. But there was immediate speculation that powerful interests had intervened on Mr Vorayuth's behalf.

Before dawn on Sept 3, 2012, a black Ferrari driven by Mr Vorayuth slammed into a policeman on a motorcycle, killing him and dragging his mangled body along Sukhumvit Road, before speeding away.

Thailand’s police said on Monday they would look into why criminal charges were dropped against the heir to the Red Bull energy drink fortune, who was accused of a 2012 hit-and-run killing of a police officer while driving a sports car.
The decision to drop the charges against Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya has stirred public anger about the country’s entrenched culture of impunity for the rich and well-connected.

The charges had included speeding, hit-and-run and reckless driving causing death.

“A committee has been set up to ascertain the facts for transparency and fairness to all parties with regards to actions of the police, ensuring they were acting in accordance with the law and regulations,” the national police said in a statement.

The committee will report its findings in 15 days.

Thai police have launched an internal investigation over their handling of a high profile hit-and-run case.

There has been public outcry over a perceived culture of impunity for the rich after charges were dropped against the grandson of the creator of the Red Bull energy drink.
Eight years ago, he fled Thailand after a fatal crash in which a police officer was killed.
